Misquamicut SpringFest This Weekend

Rhode Island's own Grammy-winning Roomful of Blues headlines a weekend of non-stop music.

The beach season kicks off this Friday, May 11th, with the 2012 Misquamicut SpringFest at Misquamicut State Beach, a mecca for family fun.

Brought to this classic summer stretch of Westerly beach by The Misquamicut Business Association and Town of Westerly, the Misquamicut SpringFest kicks off a jam-packed weekend of live entertainment and fun on Friday, May 11th at 7pm with a performance by Roomful of Blues and a world-class fireworks display at 9pm.  From then until 5pm Sunday, the Springfest features high-gear entertainment and activities for the whole family.

Besides a full line-up of headline bands, SpringFest features an outdoor international food court and beer and wine garden, a chock-full midway of rides and games, a petting zoo and pony rides, magic shows, reptile shows and a new pirate encampment for kids.

Something for everyone, and for all ages

More tha 20 New England food vendors will be on hand to serve local festival favorites from chowder, sausage and peppers, fried dough, kettle corn and BBQ dishes to a raw bar. In addition, over 40 crafters and commercial vendors will sell their wares. Kids can enjoy henna tattoos, hair wraps, and face painting. The Beer & Wine Garden on the Salt Pond at Paddy’s Beach will feature local craft beers including Narragansett Brewing Co. Providence Beverage will provide a variety of wines. New this year, enjoy "Pondfire" at night as Winnapaug Pond lights up.

All music, all the time

An array of local bands will keep the tunes flowing by providing non-stop music, while national headliners take the stage daily. include Grammy Award Winning ROOMFUL OF BLUES Friday at 7pm followed by Hope Road: A Tribute to Bob Marley. Saturday Night local Bands Pirates for Peace, Far Off Place and The Beach Band will open for RICK DERRINGER, who rose to fame at age 17 with the McCoy’s hit “Hang On Sloopy” and his 1970’s smash hit “Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo.

Major Sponsors include, Newport Fed, 102.3 The Wolf, The Washington Trust Co., Sun Publishing, CT Tigers, WBLQ, The Buzz, EZ Waste, Paddy’s Beach and Sand Castle Beach Front Inn. Charities are Save the Bay and the W.A.R.M. Center.

“On the Lawn”: 11-5pm: Pirate Encampment and Swordplay; 11-3pm: Classic Car Show with “CrusinBruce” Palmer.

Mainstage: 6pm: Pirates for Peace; 7pm: Far Off Place; 7:45pm: The Beach Band; 8:30pm: Rick Derringer (Rock and Roll, Hoochie Koo & Hang on Sloopy).

Sunday
