NEW: Schilling Heckler is Providence Wannabe Comedian

Wednesday, June 19, 2013

A chain twitter heckler, Stenning has jabbed everyone from friends to celebrities. Here, he gets baseball star Jose Canseco to get in on the action.

Twitter heckler Jon Stenning (@AtJonStenning) tweeted yesterday at former Major League Baseball pitcher, Curt Schilling (@gehrig38), "How about you donate all the money you make on ESPN to the State of Rhode Island, you piece of s--t?"

Schilling tweeted back, “How about I just knock you out?"

Who is Stenning?

As Stenning picks up traction in the Twittersphere, GolocalProv reached out to him to learn a little more about what inspired his stab at Schilling.

Turns out Stenning is a Providence-based amateur comedian/chain Twitter heckler who jabs at celebrities, friends, and just about anyone for a good laugh and a few page views.

“In all reality, I was just watching Sportscenter on ESPN yesterday, and I saw the always cocky Schilling strutting his stuff on the air,” Stennings said. “I thought I would try to make a jab at him on twitter about 38 Studios, or as some people would call ‘trolling’. I had a feeling that he would respond, because I looked at his feed and saw that he has replied to fans and haters before. I have trolled countless people on Twitter, from other celebrities to random idiots to old friends, and this has been one of the best experiences with it.”

“I am an amateur comedian and public access host based out of Providence, so getting my name out there is exactly the kind of stuff I need,” Stenning said. He has gained about 10 Twitter followers since the incident with Schilling.

Whoever wrote this article needs a refresher course in writing in journalism, or a plane ticket to a city that the rest of the country gives a crap about, 'cos Jon Stenning's comment will far outlive and outweigh the shoddy stab taken at a Rhode Islander looking for accountability from a celebrity like Schilling.
Why would a journalist favor Mr Schilling in this way? We wonder.
This is even more reactionary and insulting than Jon Stenning's original comment, which was barely either of those things. Get it?
Firstly, to call a twentysomething who follows people on twitter and makes humorous comments a 'heckler' is pathetic. It's what most people Jon's age do on twitter. It's humor. It's twitter.
Secondly, to try and rub in the fact that he's an amateur comedian and belittle him is wholly ironic and actually hilarious coming from a Providence RI journalist who can't piece together an article that has a shred of writing talent or unbiased objectivity.
Thirdly, to take jabs at celebrities, friends and 'just about anyone' for a good laugh or a few page views is exactly what this (quoting Jon Stenning here - "piece of sh*t") journalist does on a daily basis, but the difference is, they get paid for it. Biased? of course.
This journalist is missing the point, is looking for cheap sensationalist news, in the wrong place, in the wrong way, with tired old commentary that works on 50 somethings, but won't wash with the kind of people who were affected by Schilling's studio failing.
Young people.
Whoever wrote this will have a long career trying to comprehend the whole concept of social media, while writing about it's users, all the time not understanding what sarcasm and wit is.
His attempt at journalism is clearly devoid of any of the above.
Did Jon Stenning only gain 10 followers since you wrote those childish words kiddo?
Possibly.
But here's the thing. He'll be more famous, retain more integrity, and at least has a chance of a career after this, whereas in your case, it's patently obvious you can't write to save your life, other than take a badly written, cheap stab at someone you neither comprehend nor understand.
God help you. And, as I'm sure you mother's saying, Shame on you.
Good people lost jobs, this deal is a big one, and you're defending Schilling it seems.
Shame on you.
