LEGO Robotics Park to Draw 200+ RI Competitors

It's a whole lotta LEGOs.

And Rhode Island students, as Robotics Park celebrates its 20th anniversary this Saturday at Martin Middle School in East Providence. More than 200 elementary and middle school students (and LEGO robotics afficianados) from  Attleboro, Barrington, East Greenwich, East Providence, Lincoln, Middletown, Newport, Providence, Riverside, Smithfield, Warwick and West Warwick will be showcasing their work and checking out robotic parade floats, mechanized machines, creatures, and other fantastic plastic gizmos. 

The big event kicks off National Robotics Week (April 9-17) and simultaneously celebrates National Science and Technology Month by showcasing the robotic and mechanical creations designed, built and programmed by K-12 students in Rhode Island.

In addition, the state champion FIRST LEGO League team, SMART from Bay View Academy, the Inspire Award winning FIRST TECH Challenge team from Mount Hope High School (Bristol/Warren) and two Jr. FIRST LEGO League teams will display their robots and discuss FIRST robotics programs from 11am-1pm.

Further, guests touring Robotics Park are encouraged to make jewelry out of LEGO pieces for a small fee to cover supplies. The event is sponsored by Rhode Island School of the Future.

LEGO Robotics Park, April 2, 10am-2pm. Interactive Robot Demonstrations throughout the day. The Chain Reaction Machine is demonstrated at 11am and 1pm; Robotics Park Parade launches at 10:30am and 12:30pm; Robotic Feeding Frenzy occurs hourly starting at 10:30am; FIRST LEGO League and Jr. FIRST LEGO League exhibits from 11am-1pm.Martin Middle School Gymnasium, 111 Brown St, East Providence. Admission and parking are free.
