Kevin Costner to Play Cranston’s Park Theatre

Saturday, February 04, 2012

The boys in the band: Kevin Costner and Modern West, coming to Cranston.

Kevin Costner is coming to Rhode Island this spring, and it's not on a big screen. It's on stage. And he's bringing his guitar.

On Saturday, April 7, Kevin Costner and Modern West will rock the historic Park Theatre in Cranston for an intimate, once-in-a-lifetime concert event. Famous throughout the world for his successful acting career, Kevin’s first love has always been music – a talent he’s now bringing to Rhode Island. Tickets for the show go on sale Monday, February 6.

If you play it, he will come

The history of Costner’s music career goes back over 20 years when he met John Coinman in a dirty, downtown warehouse in Los Angeles during an acting workshop. Coinman was a musician with an intense interest in acting and Costner was an actor with an intense interest in music.

Together with Blair Forward, the men began to play and write music together, forming a collaboration that became Roving Boy – a rock band with an edgy Western style and a record deal in Japan where they had a number one single called “Simple Truth.”

Staying with music

As Costner’s star began to rise, the band continued behind-the-scenes playing, writing, and recording anytime they could. In 2005, the Roving Boys met guitarist/producer Teddy Morgan and drummer Larry Cobb, and decided to build a new band together. They renamed themselves Kevin Costner and Modern West.

Born from a shared love of music and comprised of a tight-knit group of longtime friends, Kevin Costner and Modern West draw their influences from a broad tapestry of American music and beyond. The show itself flows from original material penned by the band to cover songs written by some of music’s giants.

Kevin Costner and Modern West is scheduled for 8:00 pm on Saturday, April 7. Tickets are priced at $35, $45, and $55, and go on sale Monday, February 6. For an additional $25 per person, patrons can add a pre-performance dinner package at the Stage Door Restaurant & Lounge which is adjacent to the theatre. Tickets may be purchased at www.ParkTheatreRI.com or by calling the Box Office at 401-467-7275.
