It may be called Starry Starry Night, but without a doubt the biggest star will be taking the stage.

Nine-time Grammy winner John Legend will perform at City Year's gala fundraiser on June 2, and individual tickets are still available.

The highly regarded artist who is equally respected for his "boots on the ground" charity work is the perfect match for the mission of the organization that has built its own reputation on grassroots philanthropy that benefits both volunteers and recipients of services.

Legend's talent, advocacy

"John Legend is an incredibly talented musician, but he's also an advocate for youth and a champion of education equality," said Jennie Johnson, executive director of City Year RI. "He is a powerful voice for the country's young leaders, who are ready to stand up and serve our communities."

Johnson called Starry Starry Night "the culmination of our corps members' year of service and a celebration of the progress their students have made this year."

"But," she said, "it's also a call to action. Ending the high school dropout crisis will be no easy task. City Year is all in and we're excited to work hand-in-hand with this entire community to serve our students well."

Legend's Providence concert to benefit City Year is from 6-9pm at the Rhode Island Convention Center. Tickets are $200; VIP tickets are $500 each and include access to a VIP reception. For more information, go to the Web site, here.
