Remember the old-time scavenger hunts? Well, they just got a little more high-tech, not to mention atmospheric.

Tonight at WaterFire, join in a digital scavenger hunt sponsored by the event and AT&T, all coordinated with QR codes, those square barcodes that pop up with increasing regularity on posters and signage.

"Our interactive, digital scavenger hunt will allow attendees this summer to enjoy WaterFire in an exciting new way," said Stephen Krom, vice president and general manager for AT&T New England. "It's adding just another element to this fantastic event."

How to play

Being by liking or following WaterFire on Facebook or Twitter, and you'll trigger clues.

Anyone who wants to take part in the Saturday night Scavenger Hunt will need to download the AT&T Code Scanner (free download) from the app store (available from the Apple App Store, Blackberry App World and the Android Market).

The entire hunt will be set up with QR codes. By reading the information retrieved by your reader, you'll be on your way.

The winner will receive a $10 gift card to the AT&T store and a chance to win a WaterFire boat ride for two.
