We covered fall makeup trends last week but what about that mane? Hair authority extraordinaire Leah Carlson, owner of La La Luxe Salon in Providence gives us a head's up on what's hot for the new season.

Color!

Rich, solid colors are hot for fall whether it is deep auburns, chocolaty browns or golden blondes. Tones are solid, meaning not so many highlights this season… except your style!  Embrace your own natural color or go with a whole new hue on your entire head. Color services start at just $45 at La La Luxe or you can do it yourself at home with L’Oreal Couleur Experte (various colors, $15, drugstores).

GoLocalProv Tip: Hair color is never truly permanent as in forever so be bold this season and go for the color you’ve dreamed of. A new hair color can add confidence, a bounce in your step and may highlight features that once sat unnoticed. Send us before and after photos of your fall hair.

Cut!

Ever wanted to just chop it all off? Go for it! The shorter the better this fall. Celebrities like actress Emma Watson, who attends Brown University, are setting the pace for going short, short, short and oh so chic. If cutting too much feels daunting keep long locks looking lovely with layers…lots and lots of layers.

GoLocalProv Tip: Assess your needs before you chop. We are all for cutting (I cut seven inches when I got my keratin treatment!) but be sure it is a style you can work with every day. Short hair is not always “get up and go” and no ponytails. If your lifestyle allows for it, go for it and send us before and after photos!

Bang!

Bangs are a fabulous way to update your look and add dimension to your face. With the gorgeous eye makeup trends we reported last week, bangs draw attention to the eye line allowing you to really glam it up. Make sure a professional cuts those bangs; it may seem like a straight line is no problem but you could go from magical to mullet with one bad cut. See a pro.

GoLocalProv Tip: For thicker bangs, your stylist will go farther back on your head so have an idea how thick and long you want your bangs. Blunt? Wispy? Work with your stylist using photos and your lifestyle to find your perfect bang. Send before and after pictures to GoLocalProv.

La La Luxe Salon is located at 139 Elmgrove Ave, Providence, 383-3797.
