Gorgeous Lashes Every Day

Friday, July 30, 2010

Big, long, luscious dark, lashes: we all want them. Back in the olden days, you had one option to get what nature may not have given you: mascara. And while mascara reigns supreme, other products and services have popped up to give you the look you’ve always craved.

Mascara and More…

When you visit your local makeup shop or the drugstore, mascara is everywhere. There are so many types to lengthen, thicken, darken, condition, etc. It can be a bit daunting but trust me, there is a mascara out there for everyone. A cool innovation in mascara is Blinc ($25, available at Facing Thayer, Providence), which wraps the lashes in little water resistant tubes,

rather than painting the lash. The tubes prevent running, smudging, clumping or flaking and come off easily sans makeup remover. If you want to stay old school, which still works wonders, go with the classic: award-winning Maybelline Great Lash ($5, drugstores). This oldie but goodie separates each lash and makes your eyes widen and brighten.

Buyer Be Aware: Curling your lashes prior to using mascara will make your lashes appear even curlier and longer. Pick up Shu Uemura’s famed Eyelash Curler at Sephora at Providence Place Mall, $19. Apply the curler to the base of your lashes and curl: instant pop.

Grow Girl

Prescription product Latisse is making big waves (and lashes!) as the first product of its kind to be approved by the FDA to dramatically increase lash length and thickness. Simply brushing the solution onto the base of the lashes brings results in as little as eight weeks. With celebrities like Brooke Shields and Claire Danes raving about the results, many women are thrilled with Latisse, which contains bimatoprost, the active ingredient believed to affect the growth cycle of the eyelash to lengthen the cycle and in so doing, your lashes!  Speak with your doctor if you think this product is right for you and check out http://www.latisse.com for more info.

Buyer Be Aware: Latisse is a prescription; therefore it is a medical treatment, so please talk to your doctor about any complications, questions or concerns before using the product. Do not use a friend or family member’s product.

Extend Yourself

Need a low maintenance option for your lashes?  Look no further than eyelash extensions. Lash extensions are applied to the natural lash via a medical grade adhesive applied by a professional.  “The best part about eyelash extensions is that they last 2-4 weeks and you do not need mascara!  Your lashes will look amazing as is,” says lash extension expert Sienna Iannelli ($255 for a full set of lash extensions, $35 for a maintenance fill, at Sienna Skin Studio at Elizabeth Anthony Salon, Cranston).

Buyer Be Aware: Sienna recommends seeing someone who specializes in lash extensions so that the adhesive is safe for your eyes, as other types of glue can be damaging.

Gail Iannelli

I have had lash extensions, (applied by Sienna), for over two years now, and they are the best thing I've ever done for myself! Not only are they time saving, ( no more curling, appying mascara, or removing mascara), but, they are long, thick, and lavish! I get so many compliments on my lashes. Another thing; they do not feel foreign to your eyes, they are soft and natural. I absolutely love them, thanks, Sienna!! smile
