State Qualifying Tournament
The tournament saw seventeen Middle School teams from more than 12 towns and cities in Rhode Island compete for ten slots in the Rhode Island state finals.
Prior to the competition, students spent eight weeks studying, researching, building, problem solving and working together to create a team for the Trash Trek Challenge.
The challenge asked teams to explore the world of trash, from collection , to sorting, to smart production and reuse.
The students had to invent a solution to help the trash problem and create their own Lego Mindstorms robot to accomplish trash themed "missions" on a playing field.
