Gordon School Earns Spot in FIRST LEGO League RI State Competition

Gordon School CyborGators Win 1st place

The Gordon School CyborGators of East Providence won 1st place  in the FIRST LEGO League State Qualifying Tournament on Saturday, November 21st. The CyborGators now advance to the FIRST LEGO League Rhode Island State Competition which will be held on January 16th at Roger Williams University.

The tournament saw seventeen Middle School teams from more than 12 towns and cities in Rhode Island compete  for ten slots in the Rhode Island state finals.

Prior to the competition, students spent eight weeks studying, researching, building, problem solving and working together to create a team for the Trash Trek Challenge.

The challenge asked teams to explore the world of trash, from collection , to sorting, to smart production and reuse.

The students had to invent a solution to help the trash problem and create their own Lego Mindstorms robot to accomplish trash themed "missions" on a playing field.

The Gordon School is committed to being an inclusive and accessible school for all students. At the Gordon School, 44% of the student body receives financial aid, 40% of the student body represents minority populations and students commute from more than thirty miles away.

The Gordon School hosts students from nursery through eighth grade and is a coeducational independent school.
