This morning, the ABC show Good Morning America named Newport as one of the country's 10 Most Beautiful Places.

As part of its coverage, GMA will be showing aerial film of Newport, and local filmmaker Rocco Michaluk was the man in the air. Michaluk not only filmed Newport, but also Cape Cod, which will appear on GMA as well. He shared 12 gorgeous stills from last week's shoot with GoLocal Prov.

“Considering all the beautiful places in our country, this is an amazing accolade," said Evan Smith, President and CEO of Newport's Convention & Visitors Bureau. "The Newport that people see today was crafted over 375 years. Credit should be given to the previous generations that helped shape, build and preserve this amazing city, as well as to its citizens today that are making their own contributions and signatures on this classic seaport community."

How Newport was chosen

When GMA recently invited viewers to nominate a spectacular spot they believed should be on the popular morning program’s “10 Most Beautiful Places” list, they received numerous photos and videos of picturesque Newport.Those who submitted their favorite place were asked to visit GMA’s Web site and fill out a form describing their beautiful place in 200 words or less accompanied by a photo or video. The nominations of Newport caught the morning show’s attention and GMA correspondents traveled to Rhode Island to showcase the City-by-the-Sea.
