Get LOST with Michael Emerson

To “Losties” worldwide, the name "Benjamin Linus" carries the weight of a far-off deity, one who memorably possessed an impenetrable power of persuasion. Actor Michael Emerson embraced the villainous role as the deceitful ex-leader of "The Others" in ABC's LOST, earning the 2009 EMMY for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and a 2010 Golden Globe nomination for “Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series, or Motion Picture Made for Television” (Variety recently named Benjamin Linus “one of the greatest villains in television history”).

The Long Road to The Island

This Sunday at 8pm, Emerson takes the stage at URI’s Edwards Auditorium to speak about what it was like behind the scenes of one of the most watched programs in modern television history, and his life and career that paved the path to a professional acting career. During its six season run, “LOST” became a national phenomenon, igniting the return of intelligent and in-depth television. Followers speak a kind of LOST patois, and Emerson played a key role in the spiral of sci-fi suspense surrounding the series. Before finding success on the small screen, Emerson supplemented his income working as an illustrator, landscaper, carpenter, teacher and director. Hear how the small-town Iowa boy made an enviable name for himself among Hollywood's elite. Students and the general public are welcome (URI student tickets, $20; general public, $20).
