Fit for Life: Time for Independence!
Sunday, July 05, 2015
Today is July 4th - so I feel that it would be necessary to write a column about freedom and independence. Yes we are considered a free country, and yes we are an independent nation under no one else’s rule, but on a personal level, many of us are not free, and we are dependent on others to survive.
I am not talking just about the prison population; it’s obvious that they aren’t free, and I am not talking about the children that depend on adults. Also obvious. I am talking about the people that are captive, and dependent, due to their own poor choices, or bad genetics, or who are uneducated due to their socio economic upbringing, or circumstances. I am talking about the people addicted to street drugs, or dependent on pharmaceutical drugs, to make it through the day, and I am talking about the obese people and those who struggle with eating disorders, or are captive to food addictions.
Now I am not one to sugarcoat things, and I am a firm believer that if you want something bad enough, you will go out and find a way to get it. I also know that nothing comes easy, and anything worth having requires, motivation, discipline, and execution. I have zero sympathy for lazy people who do not try to succeed in life, or people who feel entitled to a good life, but who do not want to work for it, or those who blame everyone else for their short comings.

I feel sorry for the people who put trust in their financial advisor, and are then taken of their life’s savings. I feel badly for the people who read labels on food packages that make health claims, but are being taken in by false wording, whose food choices only make them fatter or sicker. Big food manufacturers lie and spend lots of money marketing their lies. I feel badly for the people who visit a doctor, and get put on medication that can cause worse side effects than the original problem, only to find themselves in a vicious cycle of medicine trying to cure aliments caused by the drugs taken for a previous symptom or ailment. I also feel bad for someone who joins a gym to better themselves, and gets hurt, or hires a bad trainer and doesn’t get any results, but spends a lot of money, and wastes a lot of time.
All the reasons mentioned above are a big part of why I opened Providence Fit Body Boot Camp. So I can help more people become free from obesity and disease, and help more people become independent from food addictions, and pharmaceutical drugs that control their lives. Nothing makes me happier than someone smiling after they step off the scale and their weight is down, or when someone tells me their doctor cut their meds in half, because their blood sugar is under control. Yes folks, big news flash: proper nutrition and exercise will make you free and independent. But how, you may ask?
So here are a few ways:
You join my program that guarantees results. After a few weeks, you get stronger, leaner, and start receiving compliments from friends and co-workers. This frees you from poor self esteem issues, and you start seeing yourself in a different light. You now like looking at yourself in the mirror again. You start a proper nutrition program, and within weeks your body is no longer inflamed from poor quality foods. Your joints feel better because your arthritis is under control, and you are not dependent on a bottle of anti-inflammatory pills to make it through the day. When I work with older adults, they are ecstatic when they can open a jar on their own, due to improved grip strength, and they feel safe and more independent living without the help once required to conduct simple tasks in their lives. Or the person that is able to return to work sooner after an injury, because they strength trained prior, and recover better, and can gain independence from being unemployment, or even disabled from going back to their work, because they recovered faster than normal. So being able to live alone, feeling better about how you look and feel, by boosting self esteem, having more energy and drive to get tasks done during the day are all ways that exercise and nutrition can help you gain personal freedom and independence. If this sounds good to you, give me a call and lets get you on a program. In the meantime, just say no to those hot dogs and pasta salad this weekend, and be free from abdominal bloat and feeling tired and lethargic. It’s Independence Day – and there’s no reason why that can’t be about not only our country, but you, too.
