Fashion Powerhouse Badgley Mischka Opens Boutique in Newport

Just the name sends a shiver of excitement through anyone familiar with the fashion world. These two iconic American designers, Mark Badgley and James Mischka, have defined the way women dress, including celebrities like Kate Winslet, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Madonna and more. From haute couture to ready-to-wear, swimwear, eyewear, shoes, accessories and fragrance, this legendary brand has landed right here in Rhode Island: on Bellevue Avenue in Newport. And the designers popped in yesterday to make final touches.

Inside this 1,500 square foot space is a fashion maven’s mecca: racks of couture gowns ranging in a rainbow of colors from the deepest shades of aquamarine to vibrant raspberries to sheen silvers and dusky blacks. Their cruise collection, Newport-inspired, just launched and is perfect for beach and boating soirees or a casual dinner on the water. “This cruise collection was really

inspired by the Gilded Age of Newport so we are thrilled to be in a city that we love and admire,” says one half of the design duo, Mark Badgley. “We’ve visited Newport in the past and always envisioned our gowns sauntering through the mansions and now that is becoming a reality,” added James Mischka.

More Than Couture

Also in the store is Mark & James, Badgley Mischka’s contemporary line comprised of flirty and fun shorter dresses as well as tanks, tees, shorts and skirts. The eyes will feast upon handbags and

shiny baubles set atop apothecary cabinetry, original from the former inhabitants of the space, as well as a super tall mirror to make anyone feel that they are the fairest of them all. Finish your look with a spritz of one of Badgley Mishka’s signature fragrances.

In addition to the goods, the store boasts a lovely staff of gorgeous and helpful young women to greet customers and help them find that perfect item or items. There is no need for intimidation here; the welcoming, happy energy infused by the designers into every detail attracts anyone to the world of Badgley Mischka.
