It may only be the first week of spring, but all thoughts are turning to summer camps. Time to get started on that, plus more fun stuff with the kidos.

the year-round childcare/daycare they already have; hire a nanny, au pair or babysitter; join a swim club with a babysitter; spend time with grandparents; or swap childcare with friends. Which one of these ideas or combination works best for your family will depend on your child’s personality, your work schedule, and your budget. Check Kidoinfo for a list of questions to help you plan your summer.

Kido Tip 2. Map a garden

Start planning out your garden. Get the kids involved by asking them what they want to plant. If they have a favorite vegetable have the kids help research which variety they want to grow. Have a picky eater? Have the kids share their favorite color(s) and pick vegetables accordingly. Map the garden by drawing an outline of your garden area (which may be containers, community garden or a farm) filling in what will be planted by drawing, coloring or collaging in the vegetables.

Kido Tip 3. Watch the REduce REuse REcycle: Environmentally REsponsible Plays this weekend.

REduce REuse REcycle are a group of new plays written by the kids of the Manton Avenue Project. The Manton Avenue Project works with children living in Providence’s Olneyville neighborhood. Kids work together with professional adult artists and create original theater. Their mission is to increase the kids’ self esteem and unleash the kids’ creative voices. The Manton Avenue Project is modeled after New York City’s 52nd Street Project, which has been working with kids in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood since 1981. Plays are free but reservations required.
