The festivities take place (rain or shine) from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Attractions feature a Zumba class from 11:00-11:45 am that will get the participant’s blood flowing. Mastery Martial Arts will teach the art of Karate and bring their Dragon Mascot from 11:30 am -12:30 pm. Rhody Ropers will show off their jump roping skills, sell jump ropes and help kids make their own beaded jump ropes. Kick boxing demonstrations will enable kids to lace up the gloves for an interactive treat. A bouncy house, sandwiches provided by Michael’s Meats, Shriners Clowns, refreshments from Del’s Lemonade and other exciting events are being planned.

Ben Howarth, Extraordinary Child’s Chairman of the Board, said the event will raise awareness of the challenges some kids face and the organization’s strategies to aid them.

Kids with disabilities have a special place

“We understand how difficult it is to raise a child. It can be an even more daunting task if the child has a special need. This facility, which is the first of its kind in this area, will give children with a disability a place that was specifically designed for their unique needs in mind. It is really a tribute to the staff that had the foresight and vision to make this a reality. It makes me feel good to think about the children that will be positively impacted,” Howarth said.

Extraordinary Child provides opportunities for individuals with special needs and their families to access: social interaction, sensory-enriched play, emotional support, and family resources. The facility also provides opportunities for families to play and bond in ways that might not otherwise be available to them.

Among the numerous vendors attending the Grand Opening include: Met Life Center for Special Needs Planning, Day One, The Rhode Island Parent Information Network (RIPIN), Autism Speaks and Organa Coffee. Extraordinary Child invites all establishments dealing with child services to join this event. Extraordinary Child serves all of Rhode Island, southeastern Massachusetts and Connecticut.
