The Steve Latimer 5K returns this fall to honor the memory of a young man who lost his life to violence, and to make sure such acts don't happen in the future.

Rhode Islanders will have a great chance to run through beautiful Roger Williams Park and raise funds for a worthwhile cause. The Second Annual 5K Families Against Violence Run/Walk to benefit the Steve K. Latimer Memorial Foundation will take place on Saturday, October 12, 2013.

Honoring Steve Latimer

Latimer was two days shy of his 24th birthday when he was fatally shot in an act of senseless violence. The event helps keep Latimer’s memory alive, organizers say, while bringing further awareness of these types of acts. The event is being sponsored by Bank Rhode Island (BankRI).

The mission of the Foundation is to raise money to provide scholarships to Rhode Island children who have lost a parent or caregiver due to an act of violence. The Foundation believes that by providing these children, the un-sung survivors of violence, with scholarships, we are giving them the opportunity to consider education as a formidable option to achieve success, end the cycle of violence and ensure healthy productive living.
