Known for her talent, and magnetic ability to bring together masterful artists, Dr. Judith Lynn Stillman has indeed done it again. This time, the Wednesday Masterworks Series is presenting Stillman together with one the world’s best string quartets, The Lydian String Quartet, resident artists at Brandeis University. They will perform a dazzling concert called SchuMania!, which will treat audiences to an exclusive chance to hear these musical powerhouses together on the stage at the Nazarian Center at Rhode Island College. This is a distinctive partnership, featuring the combination of talents of resident artists from two major New England institutions.

On March 27, 2013, Stillman and the Lydians will perform the Schumann Piano Quintet in A Major, among other Schumann works. The Lydian Quartet has received accolades worldwide, and numerous awards in its long history. SchuMania! will highlight the passionate, emotional and imaginative music of composer Robert Schumann, and is a perfect way to celebrate the arrival of Spring. The concerts are scheduled for 1:00 pm and 7:30 p.m.

"The Schumann E-flat Piano Quintet, Op. 44, is one of the most magnificent and significant chamber music masterworks ever composed,” Stillman said recently about why the artists selected this piece. “The quintet reflects the heights of the composer's creative imagination, using a full palette of expressive lyricism and bravura technique, evoking drama from melancholy to exuberance, yearning, shimmering, all infused with an inexhaustible wealth of fascinating musical ideas. To perform this monumental cornerstone of the repertoire, we hope, will be an artistic union, and a tour-de-force of combustible energy!"
