Don’t Miss: RISE Bootlegger’s Bash
Tuesday, October 25, 2011
How many chances do you get to hit up a speakeasy with Providence Mayor Angel Taveras?
Odds are that this might be your only chance, which is reason enough to not miss this Saturday's Bootlegger's Bash to benefit Rhode Islanders Sponsoring Education (RISE), at the Hope Club in Providence.
With a name like Bootlegger's Bash, it's pretty clear that the theme is the Roaring '20s, and this night is all about pulling out the stops.
Vaudeville, burlesque... and an open bar
The event is in two parts - a Patron Party from 7-9 pm ($150/person) and the Bash from 8 pm-midnight ($45). Patron Party tickets include admission to the Bash. 1920s and '30s attire is encouraged but not required!
The event's Patron Party, hosted by the Mayor, features an authentic 1920s menu and, in true speakeasy style, an open bar. Further, guests will be treated to special performances by the Brooklyn-based vaudeville duo Gelber & Manning and the sensational tappin' and flappin' Minsky sisters (recently featured in the New Yorker).
Bash guests will be entertained by the antics of emcee Miss Wensday, the magic tricks of Finnegan's Ten In One Circus Sideshow, and the TropiGals. Music will be provided by DJ John Richard. There will be lots of fun snacks (think homemade potato chips and fondue!) and a cash bar (and while it may not be strictly 1920s, cupcakes from the Cupcakerie will also be served).
Honorary Co-Chairs are Susie Symonds and Jane Joukowsky. Bash Co-Chairs are Kristen Minsky and John Taraborelli.
And like any Speakeasy, it requires a password at the door. So buy your tickets in advance. For more information/reservations, call RISE at 421-2010.
