Don’t Miss: Jamestown Arts Center Summer Soiree Tonight
Friday, July 05, 2013
One of the best summer fundraisers is on tonight in Jamestown, and tickets are still available.
On Friday, July 5 from 6-9pm, the Jamestown Arts Center (JAC) will host the third annual Summer Soirée, and an exclusive preview of OUTSIDE IN, its major summer exhibit. “This is the Jamestown Arts Center’s biggest annual fundraising pARTy of the year and not to be missed," said JAC board president, Kate Petrie. "The Summer Soirée offers the whole package – creativity all around – with beautiful artwork, delicious food and drink, great music and atmosphere, and of course a very fun crowd. It has all the ingredients for another spectacular evening!”
Party highlights
Party goers will enjoy thoughtfully fashioned, handcrafted cuisine and creative cocktails from the chefs at Stoneacre Pantry (who have plans in the works to open a restaurant in Newport this summer). Tricky Britches, a high-energy string band hailing from Portland, Maine will provide live entertainment. From their roots of playing heel-stomping fiddle tunes, they have progressed into a fusion of classic bluegrass, country, and folk rock.
Tickets for the Summer Soirée are $100 for current members, $125 for non-members. (Memberships are $25 for students & seniors, $35 individual, $50 family.) Tickets can be purchased online at www.jamestownartcenter.org or at Baker's Pharmacy, Conanicut Marine's Ship Store & Chandlery and the Jamestown Arts Center. Tickets will also be available at the door on the evening of the event.
OUTSIDE IN is an exhibit featuring exceptional Outsider Art, which can be described as a type of artwork created outside the boundaries of official culture. Typically, those labeled as outsider artists have little or no contact with the mainstream art world or art institutions. Often outsider art illustrates extreme states, unconventional ideas or elaborate fantasy worlds.
OUTSIDE IN
“The paintings and drawings chosen for this exhibition come from artists whom I have known in the course of my twenty-six years of involvement with Outsider Art," said OUTSIDE IN curator George Jacobs, owner of the Self-Taught Art Gallery. "All have created highly original bodies of work without the intention to market it. The art exhibits a directness of expression and spontaneity in the creative process which often leads to powerful compositions."
The Jamestown Arts Center invites everyone to enjoy this unique celebration in support of a community arts center where artists and art lovers of all ages, abilities and artistic disciplines learn, collaborate, and gain inspiration. Proceeds from the Summer Soiree will go toward visual and performing arts events and ongoing programming.
