DIY Beauty: Rejuvenating, Cleansing Masks

Tuesday, May 04, 2010

Whip up some delicious snacks…for your skin!  We talked to Kim Gonzaga, owner of Providence-based Stella Marie Soap Company, to get some yummy facial treatment recipes.  Easy, inexpensive, and a treat any night of the week!

Cucumber Mint Facial

Mint helps to rejuvenate and refresh the skin while cucumber calms redness and inflammation.

Ingredients:

2 large cucumbers

1 Tablespoon water

2 Teaspoons lemon juice

¼ cup of fresh chopped mint

Cut up cucumber and place in food processor or blender.  Blend and strain extra juice.  Put cucumber puree, lemon juice and water in the microwave for 4 minutes.  Add mint and microwave for another 5 minutes.  Let mask cool until it is warm to the touch and apply to clean, damp skin.  Leave on for 5 minutes, rinse with warm water, pat dry and apply moisturizer.

Oatmeal, Milk & Honey Facial

Oatmeal provides natural exfoliation while honey moisturizes, brightens and smoothes the skin.  Milk softens (Cleopatra bathed in milk regularly!).

Ingredients:

2 Tablespoons high quality honey

2 Tablespoons ground oatmeal

1 splash of milk

Mix all ingredients together. Apply to clean, damp skin. Leave on for 5 minutes, rinse with warm water, pat dry and apply moisturizer.

Avocado Yogurt Facial

Avocado is loaded with potassium to plump skin and moisturize while yogurt nourishes skins and reduces pore size and improves overall skin texture.  Lemon works as a natural astringent.

Ingredients:

1 ripe avocado, mashed

4 Tablespoons plain yogurt

Juice from 1/2 of a lemon

Mix all ingredients together. Apply to clean, damp skin. Leave on for 5 minutes, rinse with warm water, pat dry and apply moisturizer.
