College Unbound Set to Award $15,000 Scholarships to 15 Students

College Unbound has announced its plan to award $15,000 Scholarships to 15 lucky students in 2015.
“This is an incredible opportunity for an adult to come back to college knowing they can connect their life, work, and school through projects that fit the courses. We see ourselves as talent developers, finding and building leaders in Rhode Island," said Dennis Littky, President of College Unbound and founder of the Met School in Providence.

GET THE LATEST BREAKING NEWS HERE -- SIGN UP FOR GOLOCAL FREE DAILY EBLASTCollege Unbound is accepting applications for its first cohort independent of partner institutions. Up to 15 qualified students will receive scholarships of $15,000, enough to cover the first three semesters of tuition.
Applicants must have a college GPA of at least 2.0 and a minimum of 9 but not more than 45 college credits to qualify. All students who submit a complete application and a refundable $50 application fee no later than November 10 will get an interview and take a writing assessment.
Scholarship recipients will be notified no later than December 4. Students will then attend an orientation session on January 11 and sessions will begin on January 25.
College Unbound Program
Once sessions begin, students at College Unbound will participate in courses that are both online and in person. Students will attend a seminar with their learning cohort one evening per week and receive weekly one on one support from the academics advising faculty.
“Education is all about bringing forth the capacity that exists within people, and College Unbound offers people the opportunity to expand their minds, finish their degrees, and build better lives. These types of adult degree completion programs are transformative not just for the individuals and their families, but also for our community and workforce," said Dr. Jim Purcell, Rhode Island Commissioner of Postsecondary Education.
College Unbound
College Unbound is a non-profit, degree-completion, institution of higher education. It is a high-tech/ high-touch institution in which academic progress requires both online ins ruction and on ground action research. College Unbound targets low income, under-represented adult learners who have a minimum of nine college credits but no degree.
