COLLEGE GUIDE: Late Night Binge Eating Spots

Sometimes in college, for reasons we don’t need to get into, a long time may elapse between dinner and sleep; or, in the worst case scenario, we may miss dinner completely. It is in these circumstances, as the clock ticks towards 10, 11, 12 or later, that an awful craving for food is almost inevitable; and, being on a college budget, food may not be readily available in your dorm room or apartment. But thanks to the restaurants and diners below, you don’t need to panic. In fact, you may find yourself staying up really late on purpose.

Big Tony’s Pizzeria, Providence

Open for free delivery until 4 am, not only does Big Tony’s have pizza to die for but it is also home to the world famous “gangster wrap.” With a play on words like that, how could it not be good? Going along with the mafia theme, each of the different wraps are named corresponding to a famous mobster. With so many different options, it is hard not to find something on a late night just right for you. Ronzio’s Pizza, Smithfield (good for Bryant students)

Ronzio’s Pizza is a Rhode Island staple and has a number of locations across the state. The ones most attractive to Bryant students will most certainly be the one on Bryant’s campus or the one located on 9 Cedar Swamp Rd in Smithfield. Open until 3 am on Fridays and Saturdays and 1 am rest of the week, the restaurant(s) is incredibly for local students who desire late night pizza, wings, calzones or sandwiches. 1150 Douglas Pk, Smithfield. 401-531-6620. www.ronziopizza.com

Golden Crust, Providence (good for PC and RIC students)

Golden Crust was sure to have college students in mind when they decided to stay open for delivery until 4 am. Advertised on their site is the fact they deliver to a number of colleges in the Providence area. And there are two locations. A particular menu favorite is the buffalo chicken pizza. Baja Tex Mex Grill, College Hill/Providence 

If authentic Mexican burritos are your late night guilty pleasure of choice, than Baja is right for you. Open until 2 am, the family owned restaurant’s recipes were inspired by trips to restaurants in Boston, Philadelphia and New York. As a bonus, you get free soft-served ice cream or yogurt with any purchase. 273 Thayer St, Providence. 401-383-7079. www.bajastexmexgrill.com

East Side Pockets, College Hill/Providence 

East Side Pockets is a more unique option for late night food than your basic pizza, wing, or burger joint. They sell falafels and pockets with many different choices for fillings. And there are also several great vegetarian options for those who are not a fan of meat. The prices are also very good. It is open until 2 am on Friday and 1 am Monday through Thursday. 278 Thayer St, Providence. 401-453-1100. eastsidepocket.com

The Burger Shack, Kingston (good for URI students)

By our experience, late night college favorites usually consist of some combination of pizza or wings. But burgers are great too, and you will be hard-pressed to find another Burger joint open until 2 am. And they even have delivery! Brickley’s Ice Cream, Narragansett (good for URI students)

Brickley’s Ice Cream in Narragansett is not open as late as the other places on this (only until 10 pm) but it is still after dinner time and we thought would be fair to throw in a place that can satisfy the late night sweet tooth or desert craving that so many of us get. Brickley’s receives rave reviews from critics and customers. Pour Judgment Bar and Grill, Newport (good for Salve and RWU students)

Pour Judgment Bar and Grill is a Newport favorite. The bar is open until 1 am every day and the dining room is open until midnight Sunday through Thursday and 11 pm Friday and Saturday. There are a number of great appetizers to choose from and sandwiches and entrees at a good price. Classic Pizza, Bristol (good for RWU students)

Classic Pizza is a perfect late night choice for those in the Roger Williams area. It is open until 2 am on Friday and Saturday, 1 am on Thursdays, and 12 am the rest of the week. They offer delivery and take out. They offer pizza, calzones, subs and wraps, and some succulent appetizers as well. They only recently moved to their new location on Metacom Ave. 349 Metacom Ave, Bristol. 401-253-1871.
