The newest craze on college campuses is the Taiwanese drink Bubble Tea. Also called boba (meaning milk) or pearl tea, the drink comes in a variety of flavors and consistencies to feed your craving. From

smoothie types to iced teas, from sweet to bitter, the one common factor are the bubbles—tapioca starch balls—or also called “pearls.” Are you already hooked? Been hearing about it and wanted to give it a try? Well, RI has caught on to the Bubble Tea trend and we’ve complied a list of great places to get your Bubble Tea treat. 

Tealuxe, College Hill/Providence

Thayer Street wouldn’t be complete without the newest craze, and Tealuxe nabbed it first. This great hangout right next to Brown has cute plush sofas and an intimate feel. Bubble Tea House, downtown Providence

Bubble Tea House of Providence has a wide variety of bubble teas, ranging from original to the thai ice tea with a 6 hour brewing process. In the fall there will be daily specials available to students with the flash of an ID. 849 Westminster Street. Open Monday-Saturday 10am-9pm and Sunday 10am-8 pm. 401-351-0049.

Quickly, downtown Providence

Quickly restaurant has a sleek Asian feel. It’s great for RISD and JWU students taking a late-night study break, right next to campuses. Best sellers include Jasmine milk tea, taro milk tea and thai milk tea, all with the favorite tapioca bubbles. 10 Dorrance St. Open 10am-10pm Monday-Saturday.  401-228-6766. 

Bubble Tea House Two, Kingston (good for URI students)

URI students are lucky to have the Bubble Tea House Two right next door. With four types of bubble tea including flush, a lemony flavor; snow, smoothie-like; juice, similar to iced tea; and the classic milk tea, you can never go wrong. 94 Fortin Rd. Open Monday-Friday 10am-8pm and Saturday-Sunday 11-6. 401-284-0414. 

Empire Tea & Coffee, Newport (good for Salve students)

This Newport tea spot serves two types of bubble tea—creamy and clear. Best sellers of creamy include chai and milk teas.
