students, who need to unwind a little after a hard week of school. Here are 10 great places near your schools for the perfect night.

The Whiskey Republic, Providence waterfront

This waterfront Irish sports bar was started and is owned by none other than the frontman of the Dropkick Murphys. Is there anything else you really need to know about the quality of this establishment? There is of course plenty of whiskey as the name suggests but as with any Irish bar the beer is plentiful as well. Ladder 133, Providence

Ladder 133 Sports Bar & Grill is a state-of-the-art fun and exciting sports bar. Sports and athletic events of all kinds are shown on the beautiful plasma wide-screen televisions from pay per view UFC events to the Olympics. The building itself, especially the 124 year old mahogany bar, is a pleasure to the eyes. This all contributes to a great atmosphere as one sits down to enjoy some great beer and great food to have a terrific time with your buddies. The Wild Colonial, Providence

The Wild Colonial Tavern has been named of the one best bars in all of America and one of the chief reasons is its terrific selection of beers. The atmosphere is simple and friendly. A multitude of ever-changing arrays of tasty, locally brewed beers is always available on tap or bottled. Every Sunday the tavern holds its famous “Pub Quiz.” The bar also often hosts events for charity and seeks to inform its patrons of civic and political issues through the “Drinking Liberally” series. 250 South Water St, Providence. 401-621-5644.

Snookers, Providence

Snookers is not only a great hang-out for college students but has even hosted a number of Hollywood celebrities. 40-inch-plus flat screens make it a terrific place to watch sports. There are two full bars and a number of great food options to boot. And don’t forget the 15 pool tables available for play. Clam Jammers, Narragansett (good for URI students)

Clam Jammers is great to visit from the early hours of the morning to the late hours of the night. At night, the venue hosts DJs and the best local live bands. The bar offers a terrific view if one wishes to take a seat for a few beers. It also offers an extensive assortment of beers, from the classic domestics and imports, to seasonal and local brews both on tap and bottled, including, of course, Narragansett. 294 Great Island Rd, Narragansett. 401-783-9600.

George’s of Galilee, Narragansett (good for URI students)

George’s of Galilee offers a beautiful atmosphere thanks to its location overlooking the waterfront on the Block Island Sound. The restaurant serves local craft brewed beers with tasty custom-made burgers and its signature delicious seafood. O’Brien’s, Newport (good for Salve students)

O’Brien’s Pub welcomes a wide range of different customers, whether they are looking for a nice, relaxing lunch or dinner on the outdoor patio with the family or looking to have a few beers with friends in the pub. There are weekly food specials one can take advantage of in the pub as well as karaoke, trivia and live music on certain nights. A wide array of domestic and imported beer is available for purchase. Gillary’s Tavern and Nightclub, Bristol (good for RWU students)

Top 40 DJs, cover bands, and nightly promotions make Gillary’s the ideal place to grab a drink and have some fun. There are few things better than the combination of beer and wings, and if you feel like getting out on Monday you’ll find 35 cent wings available. Effin’s Last Resort Pub & Grill, Smithfield (good for Bryant students)

Loads of entertainment and a rambunctious party atmosphere define Effin’s Last Resort Pub & Grill. It is a perfect place for college students who want beer, dancing and a night out. There's live music on the weekends, but what makes the venue so unique is the famous resort-style playground complete with a full-service Tiki Bar, Olympic-sized swimming pool and beach volleyball court. Shark Bar & Grille, College Hill/Providence

If you want some sushi and a unique atmosphere as you drink a beer than the Shark Bar & Grille is ideal for you. You won’t find many bars or places in general with a fish tank containing shark behind the bar! Both indoor and outdoor seating is available. Their recently revamped menu offers other great seafood along with the Sushi and don’t forget the full bar.
