The National Association for College Admission Counseling has release its annual spring College Openings Update. This list show colleges with space still available for freshmen and transfers as of May 1. Each year, some surprisingly strong colleges and universities appear on the list, perhaps because of a downturn in applications or a miscalculation on how many students they would yield from their pool of acceptances. Many still have financial aid available and housing. So, if you are not happy with your acceptances, it’s worth investigating opportunities that are still available for the fall!

Students looking for smaller schools will find great options on the list like Juniata College in Pennsylvania, DePauw in Indiana, Roanoke in Virginia, Knox in Illinois, Guilford in North Carolina, Drew in New Jersey, Lawrence in Wisconsin, Stetson in Florida, Loyola in New Orleans, St. Mary’s in Maryland, Lesley in Boston, and the New School in New York City. Many of these colleges were featured in Colleges That Change Lives, the groundbreaking admissions book by Loren Pope.

There are also a number of medium size colleges on the list, including: Catholic U. in Washington, DC, Loyola Maryland in Baltimore, Suffolk in Boston, Hofstra in New York, St. Louis University in Missouri, and Jacksonville University in Florida.

If a larger school is more your style, there are openings at Arizona State, University of Arizona, University of Oregon, Drexel in Philadelphia and Coastal Carolina.

Finally, for those willing to be adventuresome, a number of universities in Scotland, England and Canada are still accepting applications. From Alberta to Aberdeen, many English speaking international universities have openings for the fall, and you can get U.S. federal loan money for accredited colleges abroad.

Don’t delay though, these openings are limited and won’t last for long. If you are interested in a college on the list, contact their undergraduate admissions office as soon as possible to verify spots still exits, and submit your application this week!
