Brown Named Among Top Intellectual Colleges in US
Saturday, September 11, 2010
Unigo, a free, online college resource guide and student platform with polls, campus evaluations and more information extracted directly from college students, has included Brown University in their list of “Top 10 Colleges Where the Pursuit of Knowledge Goes Beyond the Classroom.” “We looked for schools that cater to students who happily spend all their waking hours in pursuit of intellectual stimulation, questioning life, challenging the status quo, and letting their curiosity run wild,” is how Unigo describes the poll's criterion. “Thirty thousand student votes later, we've identified the Top 10 Schools where being a "nerd" (as they often, and lovingly, refer to themselves) is truly the norm.”
A Fresh Approah
Brown students, the site describes, are “said to be among the most intellectual, and eccentric, of all the Ivy Leaguers.” It credits the university’s progressive educational philosophy, sans core requirements, with allowing students to pursue a custom-tailored, intellectually stimulating curriculum. Wesleyan University, in Middletown, Conn., was the only other New England school to make the top 10.
