Major stage, film, and television star Brian Dennehy will be on stage at Trinity Repertory Company next Monday, July 30, in a rare performance/discussion of the work of America's premier playwright Eugene O'Neill. For theater lovers, this is a night not to be missed. The bonus: ticket sales benefit Trinity Rep's Theater for Every Generation campaign.

This one-night-only engagement will pair Dennehy onstage with Trinity's own resident actor Fred Sullivan, Jr., promising an abundance of chemistry, intelligence, and acting chops.

An icon of the American stage

Dennehy is a long-time Eugene O’Neill fan and performer, considered by many to be the preeminent interpreter of O’Neill for his generation. “Brian Dennehy is an icon of the American stage," said Trinity's artistic director Curt Columbus. “He not only has an unparalleled insight into O’Neill’s work, he has devoted the heart of his career to the stage in a way that very few of his contemporaries have. We are thrilled to be able to offer our audiences the rare opportunity to enjoy his talent and unique perspective up close, in our intimate Dowling Theater.” Dennehy serves on the honorary board of Trinity's Theater for Every Generation campaign.

This isn't Dennehy's first visit to Providence. He was last seen onstage at Trinity Rep in the 2003-2004 season production of Hughie, a short two-character play by O’Neill set in the lobby of a small hotel on a West Side street in midtown New York during the summer of 1928. The award-winning actor is fresh from a sold-out run in O'Neill's The Iceman Cometh alongside Nathan Lane at the Goodman Theatre in Chicago. He won the 2003 Tony Award for Best Actor for his performance in Long Day's Journey into Night, and appeared on Broadway in Desire Under the Elms.
