Ok, we get it, you’re busy! When it comes to taking some time away from work or family, that’s my excuse, I am just too busy for that.

For me, that is a pretty lame excuse, especially for someone who spends a large percentage of time on a quest to find the best information, products and services for better living. While promoting my message of balance, wellbeing, sustainability and health, I realized that I am failing to take some of my own advice. But I've here to say I've found a local spot that will melt your stress away. Literally.

Why we all need to relax

There are some good reasons to make some time for relaxation in your life.  Recent Harvard University Studies show a strong link to stress and numerous diseases as well as aging issues.  And according to the American Medical Association, 75% of visits to primary care physicians are stress related.

I was set to remedy my non-relaxing ways by scheduling an afternoon off (practically unheard of for me). I then booked an appointment at the newly opened Urban Sweat Spa at Raffa Yoga in Cranston. Although Raffa Yoga has been around since 2000, Urban Sweat has just recently opened.

A hot way to unwind: Urban Sweat

The premise of Urban Sweat is to plunge you into high-heat settings that allow your pores to open, your muscles to soften, and your mind to relax. Mission accomplished, I say.

The facility is top notch and is as nice if not nicer than spas I have been to at first rate resorts around the world.  If you can’t relax here, you’re likely a hopeless stress case.  I was impressed with the décor, staff , and uniform provided to me when I checked in.  No worries about what to wear or not wear, they’ve got you covered with in-house t-shirts and shorts.

21 rooms, all of them hot

And the offerings!  I would have needed a full weekend to enjoy the entire facility but here are a few of the highlights. Urban Sweat has 21 therapeutic massage and treatment rooms. Different rooms provide relief for various ailments or conditions.  I tried the Himalayan Salt Grotto which was beyond relaxing and gave my skin a youthful glow. Yay to that. I followed up with by a therapeutic massage. Emerging from the massage room like a glowing Gumby. I was pleased with my first effort at relaxation and plan to make it a regular part of my life.

For a mere $40 you can hang out all day, journeying from different hot room to different hot room, and cooling down in the relaxation area. Massages start at a reasonable $49. Check it our for yourself: Urban Sweat at Raffa Yoga, 19 Sharpe St, Cranston, 401-463-3335.
