Best Bar Trivia Nights

Friday, May 13, 2011

Feeling smart? You can test your intellectual mettle almost every night of the week in Providence. Grab a beer and a group of friends and test those trivial pursuit skills.

Sunday: The Wild Colonial Tavern

Like the Sunday crossword puzzle, Wild Colonial’s Sunday night pub quiz is best completed with a group of brainy, creative friends.   This relaxed environment doesn’t get too competitive, which is a deserved consolation considering the difficulty of the questions.   The questions are newly written by the trivia leaders and they range from the ridiculous, the esoteric, the hilarious (completing the punch-line to several “yo mama” jokes).  7:30; Every 2 weeks, the next is May 15th. 250 South Water St, 621-5644.

Monday: Spats Sports Bar & Grill

To unwind from the first workday of the week, stop by Spats Sports Bar & Grill with your trivia team.  The sports bar atmosphere keeps this trivia night from being too esoteric and the team spirit is usually high.  The questions won’t be too challenging, but if you group splits one of Spats’ 100 ounce beer tubes, the questions might seem less-softball.  9-11pm, 182 Angell St, 437-8300.

Tuesday: Trinity Brew House

With a nice selection of questions and a nicer selection of beers, the Trinity Brew House’s trivia evenings are the quintessential trivia nights. The crowd is usually a nice mix between mild and jocular, great for small groups to chat between rounds. The questions won’t be too arcane, but challenging enough for you to show off some kernels of wisdom to your team.  8pm, 186 Fountain St, 453-2337.

Wednesday: Union Station Brewery

Bring a large group and take over a table at Union Station Brewery’s Wednesday night trivia. The questions don’t start until 8:30, so there’s enough time to grab a bite to eat and let dinner turn into a game-filled evening. 8:30pm, 36 Exchange Terrace, 274-2739.

Thursday: Luxe Burger Bar

Grab a burger at Luxe Burger Bar to fuel-up for Thursday evening trivia.  The event is free, and the top prize is $30, certainly enough to buy a round for your team (and maybe the runners up, if you’re feeling generous). 9pm, 5 Memorial Blvd, 621-5893.

Sunday: English Cellar Alehouse

For some classic trivia, try the English Cellar Alehouse trivia.  On Sundays, the Alehouse’s trivia is perfect for a group of friends to cozy up in booths, or perch at the bar.  Keep your ear fine-tuned and you might rack-up some serious points during the musical bonuses round. 8pm, 165 Angell St, 454-3434 .
