Beach House Chic: Roseberry-Winn Pottery

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

There are certain objects, no matter how small, that make a room. Such is the power of Roseberry-Winn pottery, and once you've seen one of their vases in a sunlit corner, a teapot on a brunch table, or their near-iconic mugs on any porch facing the sea, you'll understand the power of this locally-made porcelain. Subtly glazed in colors that seem to spring from sea glass and other objects from the shore, they are both every day and vacationlike. And they are worth the trip to Tiverton to procure.

The pottery is named for its designers: Michael Roseberry, who brings an early study of botany to later pursuit of the chemistry of ceramics, and Bruce Winn, a potter, MFA, and currently teaching at the Rhode Island School of Design. Together they've created a line utterly distinctive, never tiring. And their shop, tucked into a clapboard 1840s house in Tiverton Four Corners, can inspire a buyer to redo an entire summer home kitchen in Roseberry-Winn.

Whether adding a set of breakfast bowls and dinner plates for the Charlestown beach house or choosing one perfect Latte Mug for a tiny urban loft (and imaging it's your Charlestown beach house), each touch of Roseberry-Winn adds the grace of summer living to one's life. Visit them in Tiverton, 3842 Main Rd, 816-0010, Wed-Sat 10-5pm, Sun 12-5, and in July and August Mon-Sat 10-5pm, Sun 12-5. Or click here to shop online, now. Either way, it's summer.
