BankRI Presents $7,000 to Providence Rescue Mission

Saturday, January 15, 2011

Bank Rhode Island (BankRI) announced it has donated $7,000 to the Providence Rescue Mission. This donation will be matched with an $8,000 gift by long-term BankRI customer Nooney Controls of North Kingstown. These funds will be used for Providence Rescue Mission’s newest facility, which will serve women and children.

The new facility will provide meals, shelter, dependency programs and education programs, to local women and children in crisis. The facility is set to open in April of 2011.

To provide "a safe haven"

“During hard economic times it is important to do what we can to help others who are less fortunate,” said Merrill Sherman, President and CEO of BankRI.  “We are delighted to partner with an outstanding local business, Nooney Controls for this donation to help the Providence Rescue Mission provide a safe haven and hopefully a sense of security for women and children in need.”

“Nooney Controls has been supporting the Providence Rescue Mission for over 10 years, and I’ve been inspired by the incredibly effective, efficient and loving way they serve the less fortunate part of our inner city Providence community,” said James Nooney, President and CEO of Nooney Controls. “I’m grateful to BankRI for their willingness to partner with us to continue and grow our support of the mission at a time when the mission is growing and expanding their women and children’s ministry.”

The Providence Rescue Mission provides a number of services to the poor and needy, such as nightly shelter, meals, food pantry, clothing closet, and education and career center. These services are always provided free of charge to anyone who seeks them.
