Latino Public Radio will stay on the air thanks to a grant from BankRI.

The bank donated $5,000 to Latino Public Radio, half of which was in response to an emergency challenge grant for the Rhode Island Foundation and will go towards ensuring the station’s future.

Latino Public Radio will use this $2,500 to develop a community case, which will allow the station to apply for funds from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

A shared vision

“Latino Public Radio is dedicated to inform and educate the Latino community through the production and distribution of high quality radio programs, that help ensure the success of our community,” said Dr. Pablo Rodriguez, the President of Latino Public Radio and member of BankRI’s Board of Directors. “BankRI has always been a valuable partner to our station, and we share the same vision of success for the entire community.”

Merrill Sherman, President and CEO of BankRI encourages other corporations to donate to the community saying, “In this economic climate it is vital that private businesses help to support stations like Latino Public Radio.”  Dr Rodriguez similarly points out that, “BankRI’s support is especially gratifying at a time when there are less and less corporations contributing to the charitable fabric of the state.”

The other half of the $5,000 donation went to support the station’s Havana Nights Community Excellence Awards Celebration.  The awards honored a number of exceptional people in the community and took place on April 23rd at the Twin River Casino in Lincoln, RI, as part of Latino Public Radio’s annual fundraiser.
