It's a RI Fall classic--the Scituate Art Festival, and it's coming this weekend.

Fall is in the air and Columbus Day Weekend is on us already. From fall festivals, ghostly histories and mysteries, and an illumination of life, RI’s dishing out something good for everyone to celebrate the changing season and long weekend.

Scituate Art Festival

Saturday-Monday  It's a Rhode Island autumn classic. This annual event began in 1967 as a means of supporting the effort to restore the 1830 era former Congregational Church in the village of Scituate. Starting with just twelve local exhibitors that first year, this well-established and much-anticipated event now draws close to three hundred exhibitors from all over the United States and Canada. Myths & Mysteries in Lincoln

Saturday The Blackstone River Valley is hosting Tour Your Own Backyard, a day trip into the mystical myths and spooky past of Rhode Island. Spend the day on a “spook-tacular” motorcoach adventure hunting ghosts, visiting haunted buildings and historic graveyards, and solving mysteries alongside expert guides as they lead you through the paranormal. Enjoy a break from the haunted past with a stop at Jaswell's Farm and Bakery, the perfect place to pick up your Halloween Jack O'Lantern, sweet eating pumpkins, or tasty baked goods. Tickets $49/person, including lunch. 9 am – 4:30 pm, meeting and returning at the Blackstone River State Park Visitor Center, off Interstate 295 northbound, Lincoln. Militia, Pirates, Games + More in Smithfield

Saturday-Sunday Watch Colonial militia and pirates duke it out in live battle reenactments 18th Century style at the Smith-Appleby House Colonial Weekend. Learn what colonial life was like with cooking, fire-starting, and cannon demonstrations, military drills, colonial musicians, and artisans. Take a break from the action to play games, delve into arts and crafts, or tour the 1696 Smith-Appleby House Museum. 10 am to 4 pm. Adults, $5 donation; children 12 and under, free. International Oktoberfest in Newport

Saturday-Sunday Can’t make it all the way to Germany for this year’s Oktoberfest? Don’t worry; it’s coming to you! Break out the bier steins and head down to Newport’s waterfront for New England's largest authentic German Oktoberfest. Expect a full day of non-stop Bavarian music, folk dancers, polka bands, international food, dancing, festive family fun, and of course Biergarten and Weingarten. 12pm–8pm. Racing, Flames of Hope, and Illuminations of Life

Friday-Sunday Get outdoors and support the fight against breast cancer with the Gloria Gemma Foundation. Join hundreds by the State House in downtown Providence for the Flames of Hope, an annual ceremony celebrating National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the largest breast-cancer awareness event in the Northeast. Don’t miss a day of music, health screenings, merchandise vendors, and education workshops all leading up to the Illuminations of Life Ceremony featuring torches, lit, and carried in memory of those who lost their battle with breast cancer. The night ends in a symbolic lighting of the State House in pink. State House, Downtown Providence. The weekend fight against breast cancer is wrapped up with the 4th Annual Gloria Gemma 5K Sunday. Come support and cheer on a sea of runners in pink, beginning with the Gloria Gemma Kids’ 1K Race at 10:15 am, followed by the Gloria Gemma 5K at 11:15 am to 2 pm, starting from Station Park, across from Providence Place Mall.
