The best and brightest from RISD take their designs to the runway this weekend at Collection 2012.

That big summer kick-off is one weekend away. Warm up to all the fun with our 5 hand-picked winners for this weekend.

RISD Collection 2012

Friday There's no better fashion show on earth than RISD's annual display of the Apparel department's best and brightest. 8pm, RI Convention Center, One Sabin St, Providence (preview Thursday, May 17, 8pm). Tickets $42-$62, available at the Dunkin' Donuts Denter Box Office. 401-454-6741.

SupremeRoyal presents Talib Kweli

Friday  After years of recording on mainstream labels, Talib Kweli now has the chance to produce exactly what he wants—and feels he needs—to produce: an album straight from his mouth to the ears of his fans. Invoking the true meaning of MC, Master of Ceremonies, Kweli brings incredible power to his live shows. Door opens 8pm, show 9pm. Tickets $30 advance, $40 day of show. New England 24th Annual Tree Climbing Competition

Saturday  Has someone ever told you to go climb a tree? Now's your chance to watch the world's finest compete in some of the most beautiful trees in Rhode Island. Blithewold Mansion, Gardens and Arboretum hosts the 24th Annual New England Chapter of the International Society of Arboriculture Tree Climbing Competition. Blithewold was selected for the competition this year because of its exceptional selection of well-maintained trees, as well as its enticing location and facilities. 9am-5pm, Blithewold, 101 Ferry Rd (Rte 114), Bristol, 401-253-2707. Free for members, included in regular admission for non-members.

6th Annual Rhode Island Wool and Fiber Festival, Bristol

Saturday  See craftspeople demonstrate traditional and contemporary fiber arts; purchase your own textile supplies, equipment, and gifts to take home; watch the hand shearing of sheep, and help with eighteenth century textile and farm work. 9am–4pm. Coggeshall Farm Museum, Poppasquash Road. Adults, $8; seniors and children 6-12, $3; 5 and under, free. Pawtuxet Village Walk, Cranston

Sunday  It's old-fashioned family fun at the 12th Annual Walk Through Historic Pawtuxet Village. Local schoolchildren dress up in Colonial style to give tours of the historic homes and sites within Pawtuxet Village. Tours every ten minutes.  2:30pm–3:30pm.
