This weekend is all about family fun and celebration, from Theatre by the Sea’s Bubbleology in Matunuck, to the Annual Puerto Rican Parade and Festival in Providence. Be sure to make the most of the end of summer with these top 5 musts.
Annual Puerto Rican Parade and Festival
Sunday Enjoy Puerto Rican music, food, and family fun at this annual festival. There will be activities for kids, dances, contests, Puerto Rican storytelling and even celebrity guests. Parade steps off at 10am from Broad Street in Providence and ends at the Temple of Music, Roger Williams Park. Festival starts in the park at 12pm. Call 415-5563. A Gathering of Scoundrels
Saturday Bring your friends and family to Smith’s Castle to celebrate pirates and mariners and the craft, music and merriment of the time. Don’t miss the pirate and mariner re-enactors along with some of New England's finest maritime musicians. Smith's Castle, 55 Richard Smith Drive, North Kingstown. Free admission to outdoor activities. Admission to indoor PIRATES! Exhibit: $8 adults, $3 children 6-12, free for children under 6 and Smith's Castle members. Call 294-3521.

Audubon Kooky Crayfish
Saturday Search for amazing crayfish in Smithfield. After collecting some of the crayfish, the group will gently examine the creatures. Participants will learn about where the crayfish live, what they eat and about some of their interesting traits. Smithfield. 10am-11:30am. Program fee: $6/member child, $8/non-member child; ages 4+. Theatre by the Sea’s Bubbleology
Friday Keith Michael Johnson returns to Theatre By The Sea with his popular show, Bubbleology. Don’t miss Johnson’s amazing bubble sculptures and a show that is both entertaining and educational. Between performances, families can enjoy drinks and snacks at the gazebo. Shows at 10am and 12pm. 364 Cards Pond Road, Matunuck. Single tickets: $10 each. Discount rates available for groups. Concert + Fireworks at Newport's Naval Station
Saturday A free concert will feature the music of Survivor with Navy Band Northeast starting off the music at approximately 5:30 p.m. Members of the general public are welcomed to attend as guests of the Commanding Officer and may enter via Naval Station Newport’s Gate One (Training Station Road) beginning at 5 p.m. Guests are reminded to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets. Do NOT bring coolers, picnic baskets, glass bottles, outside food/drink or pets – they will NOT be allowed onto the field area. Concession tents will offer food and drinks and a Kids Area will be set up to keep the young ones entertained prior to the music. The fireworks should begin around 9:15 p.m. Dewey Field, Naval Station Newport.
