Providence is hockey town this weekend

October is in full swing and so are weekend events all over Rhode Island. Here are five you don't want to miss.

Providence Bruins v Manchester

Friday  Hockey season is in full swing finally, and the boys are taking on rival Manchester Monarchs in the third game of the season. Great action for the whole family. Welcome in the hockey season and support the Bruins’ in their third game of the season at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. 7:05 p.m. Tickets $18-30. Get tickets and more information here.

Feel Free to Breathe in Providence

Saturday  Show support for the fight against lung cancer at the Register for the Fourth Annual Providence Free to Breathe 5K Run and 1 Mile Walk. The walk will begin at Roger Williams Park Zoo—Carousel House and progress through the park. Enjoy a pleasant stroll through the fall foliage and historic setting, or a brisk run, competing for awards given out to top finishers within age groups. All proceeds will benefit the National Lung Cancer Partnership's research, education and awareness programs. 8:30 a.m. start, admission $20 - $25. For more information or to register go here.

9th Annual Ballard Park Pumpkin Tour in Newport

Saturday  Take a walk through Ballard Park this Saturday evening, but don’t get too spooked by the hundreds of jack-o-lanterns along the trails. Over a thousand pumpkins, hand-carved by local artists, students, and the general public will be lit. Rain or shine. 4:30 pm - 9 pm, free admission. For more information go here.

Bowen's Wharf’s 21st Seafood Festival in Newport

Saturday-Sunday  Need an excuse to get back down to the water now that summer’s over? Come down to Bowen’s Wharf and indulge in bountiful amounts of seafood, baked goods, cider, kid’s dishes, and more. There will be live music all day, from sea shanties to blues, folk to Celtic, face painting, and kid’s activities under the colorful festival tents. The event is expected to attract 6,000-8,000 visitors. 11am-5pm, free admission For more information, check here.

Go to Clybourne Park in Providence

Friday  Catch the opening of Trinity Repertory Company’s new play: Clybourne Park, a much acclaimed comedy about race and real estate in America. It won the 2011 Pulitzer Prize for drama and has received excellent reviews across the nation. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Dowling Theater. Tickets are $26-36 and can be purchased here.
