Sunday  If you love watching Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman shatter your expectations on the Discovery Channel (and let’s be honest—who doesn’t?), don’t miss this live MythBusters: Behind the Myths show where they bring their unique “mind-blowing and mind-twisting” approach to science to you. Bring your family and learn behind-the-scenes MythBusters secrets as well as brand-new scientific knowledge to impress your friends. 7 pm at the Providence Performing Arts Center. 220 Weybosset Street. 401-421-2787.

Christmastime Stories, Bristol

Saturday  The Linden Place Museum, a Rhode Island gem, is getting ready for Christmas this weekend. Actor and storyteller Robb Dimmick will recite classic stories by Dylan Thomas and Truman Capote that get to the heart of the holiday—Thomas’s with its playfulness and Capote’s with its peacefulness. And don’t worry—you don’t have to be a literature buff to enjoy these tales. All ages are welcome. You won’t want to miss this heartwarming fireside celebration. 2 pm at the Linden Place Museum. 500 Hope Street. 401-253-0390.

Whiskey Wonderland, South Kingstown

Have some whiskey with your Christmas spirit this weekend at the Sons of Liberty Distillery.

Friday  All of your local favorites are in one place—Cigar Box, Dave’s Coffee, The Olive Tap Providence, Sweet Cakes Bakery, Rhode Island Soapworks, Jennifer’s Chocolates, and tons more. The Sons of Liberty Distillery will be hosting Whiskey Wonderland, a local shopping extravaganza with free gift-wrapping, complimentary cocktails, and samplings of single malt whiskey. Wildwood Catering has got you covered with specialty tacos if you’re hungry. And stick around for the “barrel-tree” lighting at 8! 6 pm at Sons of Liberty Distillery. 1425 Kingstown Road. 401-284-4006.

Geminids Meteor Shower, Charlestown

Friday  Considered by many to be the best meteor shower, Geminids can produce 60 meteors per hour at its peak. Bring family, friends, blankets, and lawn chairs to watch this beautiful natural display—you’ll barely feel the chilly air. Keep an eye out for the time—right now it’s TBD—and the weather. Ninigret Park. 4807 Old Post Road, Charlestown. 401-364-9508.

Holiday Toy Drive, Providence

Friday  Founded by Dropkick Murphys frontman Ken Casey, The Whiskey Republic is an Irish pub/sports bar hybrid that’s nothing but fun. It’s worth the trip just for the pretty view of the water, but bring a donation for Toys for Tots to get in on Friday! Each toy donation gets you a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to Whiskey Republic, and you can enjoy half-priced appetizers and drink specials throughout the event. 6 pm at The Whiskey Republic. 515 South Water Street. 401-588-5158.
