You know it's chowder cook-off time when a guy like this greets you at the door. Head to Newport this weekend for all the tasty fun.

32nd Annual Great Annual Chowder Cook-Off, Newport

Saturday Watch chowder-aficionados from across the country compete for the title of World Chowder Champion in the longest-running chowder contest. Attendees can taste test samples of both time-honored and innovative creations and vote for their favorites in the categories of Clam, Seafood, and Creative. After, simply meander outside the gates of the yacht club and you’ll find the debut Newport Oyster Festival—admission is free with a chowder ticket. Here you can taste a range of shellfish, listen to live music, and compete in oyster shucking and slurping contests. 12-6p.m. Chowder tickets $20 presale and $25 on the day. 5th Annual Summer Taste of Block Island Weekend

Friday- Sunday Explore the best of Block Island this weekend, as 60 businesses from the area combine forces to highlight its offerings. Visitors will receive a list of special deals and events to help structure their time on the island, including kayak and taxi tours, wine & beer tastings, lighthouse visits, and gallery openings. Whether you’re an outdoor enthusiast or a foodie, you’ll find something for you. There’s even an animal farm and a design-your-own-ice cream-sundae stall for the little ones. ART Night Open Studio and Music Performances

Thursday If you’ve ever needed an excuse to start your weekend early, ART Night this Thursday evening is it. Painting icon and RISD graduate Don Primiano will invite visitors into his studio for a rare sneak peek at his artistic process. This same evening Joe Fletcher from The Wrong Reasons and Will Houlihan of Haunt the House will perform to raise money for David Lamb of Brown Bird, whose recent illness has resulted in mounting medical bills. A Midsummer Night’s Dream by starlight

Friday With the weather getting warmer, it’s the perfect time to spend the evening outside watching Shakespeare under the stars. Bring a picnic, blankets, chairs, and loved ones and watch the Rhode Island Shakespeare Theatre in this picturesque setting. Can’t make it this weekend? After the Giant: Jack, Jill, and the Beanstalk
