5 Tips For Organizing + Storing Your Holiday Decorations

Your Christmas will be even merrier next year if you take some time to organize your decorations this year. Here's how.

This year have a plan to organize your holiday decorations and wrapping materials as you store them for next year. Keep this article with your box of decorations so you can refer to it when you pack away this year.

As you pack decorations away, make a list of decorations you want to purchase for next year.

Think about what you need for next year as you start packing things away. Do you need more lights, decorations, table settings? Make a list now and pack it away with the boxes or place it in your calendar for next year.  You won’t waste time figuring out what you need next year, it will be at your fingertips when you need it.

Throw out or donate anything you know you will not use in the future.

Why hold onto it if it’s broken or you know you won’t use it. It’s just going to take up space.

Keep like items together and in categories.

By storing things this way, they will be easier to find next year. This tips will save you time and you will have less stress because you know where everything is located.

If you have an assortment of lights, keep wrapped and labeled in a container.

If there are any sets of lights that aren’t working or are on their way out, be sure to throw them out now. Organize the types of lights you have and be sure to label. Keep lights in their own containers away from decorations.

Store holiday items in seal tight containers. Sterilite and Rubbermaid containers are perfect for storing decorations. If you are storing ornaments, banker’s box makes a box that holds ornaments.  Label, label, label everything!

Don’t forget about your wrapping materials. It is also important to keep your wrapping materials organized. Keep all bags, tissue, wrapping contained to one area, categorized and organized.

When purchasing containers to house your decorations, think about what you have and then buy the containers to fit what you have. Never buy containers without first figuring out what you have to store in them.  We get excited at the thought of organizing and go out and buy random containers only to get home and realize they aren’t right for what we need. 

Start next year’s holiday season off with less stress by preparing ahead now!
