Dennis DeYoung of Styx Plays the Park Theatre in Cranston Tonight

It’s another busy weekend on the music front with classic rock, modern rock, folk and blues all a part of the action this week. Read on for our Top 5 picks of the best in local music.

Styx and Reo Speedwagon Tonight

70’s Rock fans have a tough choice tonight. Two bands are in town carrying the classic rock torch. First up, “Come Sail Away” with Dennis DeYoung, longtime lead guitarist of Styx, who plays the Park Theatre in Cranston. Also tonight, Reo Speedwagon rolls into Twin River playing the Events Center. The band has sold over 40 million albums and promises to bring all the hits to Lincoln. Both shows start at 8PM. Check the web sites for ticket info.

Barrence Whitfield at Columbus Tonight

Tonight, check out rockers Barrence Whitfield and the Savages who return to the Columbus Theatre in Providence. Their recent release, Under the Savage Sky, has been described as "the most soulful punk record - or perhaps the most punk soul record - you've ever heard." Punk, soul, hardcore R&B; however you label them, this band is a lot of fun.Tickets are available here for $10 in advance, $12 day of show. Show starts at 8PM.

Breaking Benjamin at Lupos Saturday

Modern Rockers Breaking Benjamin will be at Lupo’s tomorrow night. The band is touring on the heels of a new album, Dark Before Dawn, which reached #1 on the ITunes Rock chart this Spring.  It’s an early start - Ten Years and Starset open at 6:30PM. Tickets are $38 in advance, $43 at the door.

Lilypads 5th Anniversary Saturday

It’s a big night tomorrow at Lilypads in Wakefield as the coffeehouse style venue celebrates its 5th anniversary. Lilypads has a lot to celebrate as they have come a long way since their first show with Brown Bird 5 years ago. Dubbed “Lily-palooza!,” artists include Tim Eriksen and Friends, an acoustic set from The Silks acoustic and The Vox Hunters. Check their schedule for future gigs featuring folk, rock, gospel, and other artists. Tomorrow’s show is at 7:30, tickets are $20 at the door.

Fall River Festival of the Arts at Narrows Sunday

On Sunday, the Narrows Center in Fall River has the 14th annual Festival of the Arts. The Free event features great music with headliner Shemeika Copeland, Yarn, Johnny Hoy & the Bluefish and Tiny Tavares and The Rhythm Section playing the outdoor Main Stage. Indoors on the Narrows Stage check out Milton, Heather Maloney, The Curtis Mayflower and TJ's Music Allstars.  There will be food, kids activities and more. Music Starts at 11AM and goes till 7PM.
