Low Appears Tonight at the Columbus Theatre

This week, “5 Live Music Musts” features rock and roll, old and new, classic and modern. Read on for your top picks in area concerts this weekend and beyond …

Low at Columbus Theatre

Low, an alternative indie band from Duluth, Minnesota, has been around since 1993. The band was once tagged with the “slowcore” label, their music is rich with layered textures and a minimalist sound.  They recently contributed Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m On Fire” to a Born in the USA tribute album  The show is tonight at 9PM at the Columbus Theatre in Providence. Tickets are $15 in advance, $17 at the door.

Chuck Ragan at Manchester 65

Chuck Ragan started off in punk rock but has moved in a country-rock Americana direction in recent years. He’s playing tonight at Manchester 65 in West Warwick. His music has been described as "distinctly American, the kind of folk rock that appeals to the tattooed punk rockers." He’s just released an acclaimed album Till Midnight; expect the music to go way past! Tickets are $15 for the 8PM show.

Top 5 Fiend show at Dusk

Also tonight, Dusk has a show from Top 5 Fiend with Six Star General, Weld Square, Bad MF-er and We're Traveled. These local bands promise to rock your socks off! Four bands for only $5 - now that’s a rock show! Music starts at 9PM at Dusk in Providence.

Ian Anderson at PPAC

Earlier this week, we previewed an upcoming show here from progressive rocker Ian Anderson, leader of Jethro Tull. He’ll be at PPAC next Wednesday October 29 with a performance of Tull classics and new songs from his recent release Homo Erratticus. This is another not-to-be-missed classic rock event in PVD.  Tickets are still available starting at only $37.  NOTE: THIS SHOW STARTS PROMPTLY AT 7:30 – don’t even think about being late.

Los Lobos at The Narrows Center

Los Lobos has been burning down the road for over 40 years, playing great rock and roll with a Chicano edge. You can expect a great show when they play The Narrows Center next Thursday October 30th. A few tickets remain at $75 each. This show will sell out so get them now!

Iggy Azalea

Fresh of her chart topping hit, “Fancy,” Iggy Azalea will be kicking up a storm at URI’s Ryan Center in Kingston on Saturday, September 27. In recent months, the Australian native has risen to the level of pop superstardom and she just released a steamy video, “Booty,” with Jennifer Lopez. The show is sold out, although URI students might still be able to score tickets.

He’s the author of one of the most iconic songs in Rock and Roll history. 40+ years later, "American Pie," the story of a generation, is a staple on FM radio and a part of pop culture. Don McLean will be in concert at Woonsocket’s venerable Stadium Theatre on Thursday, November 13. It's a not-to-be-missed show. Click here for tickets.

Buddy Guy

Blues legend Buddy Guy will be returning to the Park Theatre this Fall, where his over-the-top guitar antics have dazzled sold out crowds the last two years. Richard Thompson

Richard Thompson will be making a rare solo appearance on October 15 at the Narrows Center for the Arts in Fall River. Thompson is considered to be one of the greatest guitarists of all time, a master finger-style player who began his career with the British folk group Fairport Convention in the 1960’s. The  show is sold out.

Bob Dylan

Pretty much every recording artist since the early 60s owes something to Bob Dylan. His influence seems to have no end. The bard will be at PPAC on Saturday November 15th on his Never Ending Tour on the heels of his “new” release “The Complete Basement Tapes,” a 6CD box set of the classic Woodstock, NY recordings with the Band.
