Robert Cray Plays the Park Theatre Saturday
Great shows around RI dominate “5 Live” this week, with our focus on the trendy little town bordering Providence affectionately known as “the Bucket.” All these shows come highly recommended, with our certified stamp of approval. So go forth, and go local, to Pawtucket.

An evening of great music begins tonight at the Bucket Brewery with another in their series of concerts known as the Friday Night Sound Check. After work tonight, check out the ‘Mericans, playing alt/roots inspired rock and roll the way it was meant to be. The upstart brewery will be celebrating their third anniversary with great music, seasonal brew and food including world famous Pail Ale Beer Brats. Music begins at 7PM – arrive early for refreshments! Tickets are $15 - more information here.
Indie Bill at Machines With Magnets Friday
Continue across town tonight with an enchanting evening of music at Machines With Magnets, a unique studio/gallery/performance space in downtown Pawtucket. Four bands, two who played Newport Folk last summer, will be performing. They include Haunt the House, Ian Fitzgerald, John Farone, and INFJ. Check out the waifish airy sounds of INFJ here and then head to the early show, beginning around 7 Tickets are $8.
Robert Cray at the Park Theatre Saturday
A night of hot blues awaits tomorrow at the Park Theatre in Cranston where two great performers, Shemekia Copeland and Robert Cray are on the bill. Cray is a 5 time Grammy award winner (15 times nominated) and is widely considered to be one of the greatest guitarists of his generation. Copeland has been dubbed “Queen of the Blues” by the city of Chicago, and has played with Mick Jagger, B.B. King and Eric Clapton among others. Blues fans won’t want to miss this one! Show is at 7:30. Tickets available here. Check back for our review of the show on Monday.
Horn of Plenty at Common Fence Saturday
An annual Thanksgiving event happens tomorrow at Common Fence Music in Portsmouth when the Horn of Plenty returns. This year’s line-up includes Ed McGuirl and Tom Perrotti, singer-songwriter Chris Monti, Warbler Roost (featuring Bessie Bee on accordion and Greg Burgess on guitar), and Michael Tarbox of the Tarbox Ramblers with Rob Flax on violin. There’s also “an enhanced menu of holiday soups & home-made baked goods prepared by our volunteer chefs and bakers.” Great music and great eats - now you know why this event usually sells out! Tickets available here for $20 – doors at 7PM.
Joe Fletcher at The Met Wednesday
One of the busiest nights of the year for music venues is traditionally Thanksgiving Eve, and this year, our pick for the “homecoming” show awaits at The Met. RI native and nationally recognized Americana artist Joe Fletcher, who now resides in Nashville, will return to town for an awesome night of sonic revelry. He’ll be joined by his longtime band, The Wrong Reasons, with local rockers Smith and Weeden and Tall Teenagers opening at 9PM. Tickets are $12 in advance and $14 at the door.
Coming Next Week: “5 Live” goes shopping. We’ll have your guide to 2015’s best local music just in time for the holidays.
