It’s time to get over the wintertime blues! So get out and enjoy some live music this weekend! Read on for our top 5 picks…

Robert Cray at Park Theatre

Tonight, five-time Grammy award winning blues guitarist Robert Cray will be appearing at the Park Theatre in Cranston. Cray arrives in town in advance of his new album In My Soul, which is being officially released on April 1. The guitarist is a major part of the wave of blues artists who have brought the genre to a more mainstream audience in recent years. The show starts at 8PM, and is expected to sell out - a few seats remain starting at $35.

The Low Anthem at Sandywoods

Also tonight, Sandywoods in Tiverton has Rhode Island’s own indie stars, The Low Anthem. If you’ve never heard them, their sound is hard to label. We’ll try “Indie-Folk inspired Americana blues,” complete with an assortment of instruments you don’t usually hear. Doors at 8:30, show is at 9PM, a little later than usual for the Tiverton venue. Tickets are $15 – a few may still be available at the door –there’s a good chance this show will sell out.

Johnny A at Narrows Center

Also tonight, The Narrows Center has guitar great Johnny A. He’s a well known fixture on the Boston music scene, and has played with numerous artists including a stint with Peter Wolf of the J. Geils Band. He’s just released a new solo album, Driven, which features a number of originals and a surprise cover tune. (You’ll have to buy it to find out.) Mandolin rocker Jimmy Ryan opens at 8PM, tickets are $25 in advance, $28 at the door.

Two nights of Indie at Columbus Theatre

It’s a big weekend at the Columbus Theatre with two nights of up-and-coming indie artists. First up, tomorrow night, March 22 at 9PM (doors at 8PM), check out Rough Francis and Ravi Shavi. Then on Sunday, March 23 it’sDeath Vessel’s album release event, along with a Purple Ivy Shadows reunion. Doors at 7PM, show at 8PM, tickets for both shows - $10 and $12 day of show.

Amy Helm at Manchester 65

On Sunday, be sure to get to Manchester 65 for an early show from Amy Helm, daughter of The Band legend Levon Helm. Like her father, she’s a brilliant roots artist, and has been a part of groups including Ollabelle and Midnight Rambles. Opening acts includeJoanne Lurgio, Kait Clavette, and Thayer Cabin. Tickets are $15, $17 day of show. Doors at 4PM, show begins promptly at 6PM.
