Ladies will take over Countryfest tomorrow, with a lineup including rising star Nicole Frechette.

Festivals continue to rule the local music scene this weekend…

We begin tonight in the Blackstone Valley where Cumberlandfest is underway. There’s a lot to do including great music all weekend long. Friday night is "Rock in the Park” featuring a number of acts led by Dylan Sevey and the Gentlemen, Sienna, and Trophy Wives. Country fans will want to check out the Countryfest tomorrow (Saturday) with an all female line-up of Jacy Dawn, Maria Morris, and rising star Nicole Frechette. Come for the music–stay for the fireworks and patriotic sounds of Ariel Ayotte. Tickets are $5.00–Kids under 12 only a buck. Check out the website for more details.

AS220: FooFest and More

AS220 has their annual FooFest Saturday. The Fest highlights art, culture, and music at the center of the hip, cutting edge Downcity venue. (Is it still hip to refer to the area as Downcity?) In addition to the popular Maker Faire and Foo Flea, local and national bands will be there all day and night. Headlining the event is the Kansas City band SSION, who take the stage around midnight. Their sound is summed up best in this quote from eastvillageboys.com: “A dizzying vortex of queer punks dressed in bright colors dancing to early 90s pop songs, somewhere between John Waters’ Baltimore, Courtney Love’s vagina, and the green gates of the Emerald City.” If that doesn't conjure an image, we don’t know what does. The Festival runs from 1:00 PM to 1:00 AM–only $7 to see over 20 bands–it’s the best deal in town!
