Friday, August 30, 2013

Cedric Watson will be hosting the Rhythm and Roots Festival this weekend.

Rhythm, roots and a lot more can be found in RI this Labor Day weekend…

The Rhythm and Roots Festival is back at Ninigret Park in Charlestown all weekend long. The festival starts tonight at 4:00 and continues Saturday and Sunday from noon till midnight. Cedric Watson and Bijou Creole will host dozens of acts including headliners Taj Mahal, Steve Earle, Marcia Ball, and the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Check the website for all the details. Single day tickets are available at the gate for $65 – kids under 12 free. And don’t forget to bring a can of food to support RI-CAN, helping those in need in southern RI. All donations will be entered in a raffle to win Red Sox-Yankees tickets.

Also tonight, you can also head to the One Eighty in Newport for a show featuring local artists Smith & Weeden, Comic Book Keith, and Dylan Sevey & The Gentlemen. It should be a great show in a comfortable restaurant setting. Check with the restaurant for times.

One final summer concert is happening Saturday night at the Newport Yachting Center. (They do have some fall events planned.) The Sunset Music Series has 80’s rockers Pat Benatar and Neil Geraldo under the tent. Tickets start at $39.50 – Rising local star Malyssa Bellarosa is on the Point Stage at 6:00. Brian Scott opens on the main stage at 7:15.

Machines with Magnets is a recording and artist studio in Pawtucket. On Sunday they are hosting a Fuzzfest with several bands including Black Oil Incinerator, Invisible Hours, Linear North, High on Dracula, Sweet Love, Lady Osiris and Ex-Reverie/Woozy. The studio is at 400 Main St. in Pawtucket. The fuzz starts at 5PM.

Also on Sunday, The Supersuckers will rock the hell out at Fete. The alt-country road warriors once toured with Steve Earle … who is at Rhythm and Roots Saturday night. It’s a huge night of rock and roll with The Mighty Good Boys, Dog Day Afternoon, The McGunks and Reno, NV band Hellbound Glory opening. Doors at 8:00, tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.
