Laissez les bons temps rouler … it’s Mardi Gras this weekend in Rhode Island so it’s time to let the good times roll!

Mardi Gras Ball in Cranston

No surprise that the main event is the annual Mardi Gras Ball at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston tomorrow night. Organized by the producers of the Rhythm and Roots Festival, this concert is the party of the season. Put on your dancing shoes for performances from C.J. Chenier and the Red Hot Louisiana Band , Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys,Leroy Thomas and the Zydeco Roadrunners, and the Hot Tamale Brass Band. This event is sure to sell out - some tickets remain starting at $33. The party begins at 6PM and runs till midnight.

Buckwheat Zydeco in Fall River

Make it a Mardi Gras weekend starting tonight at the Narrows Center where Buckwheat Zydeco will be appearing. The legendary accordionist Stanley Dural Jr., has become the most well know Cajun/Zydeco artist in the world today. He’s performed with everyone from Paul Simon to U2 to The Boston Pops. Boston’s Johnny Hoy and the Bluefish open. Tickets start at $27 for the 8PM show. We guarantee a good time!

Peter Yarrow in Newport

Another legend, one who perhaps brings little less volume, is Folk original Peter Yarrow, who will be in Newport tomorrow night. You’ve heard his songs your whole life (Puff the Magic Dragon) and he continues to be a force in music and politics. Of course, he was a third of Peter, Paul and Mary, the most famous trio in Folk history. The Grammy Award winner is performing at 8PM at the Channing Church, 135 Pelham St. in Newport. Tickets are $30 in advance, $33 at the door.

Rock at Fatt Squirrel

There’s a great local show tonight (Friday) at Fatt Squirrel (also known as 150 Chestnut) in Providence, whereDog Day Afternoon,I Was Awake, The Invisible Hours and Mid Air Pivot will appear. That’s a ton of Rock and Roll for a Friday night! It starts at 9PM, and tickets are only $5.

Paul Geremia in North Kingston

Finally, check out a special show at Shady Lea Mill in North Kingston where Paul Geremia will be performing Sunday at 5PM. The local blues guitar extraordinaire and member of the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame will be playing as part of an outreach series sponsored by Lilypads. It’s a great chance to see the acoustic legend in a small venue – click here for tickets starting at $18.00. Remember, its an early show, starting at 5:00.

Magic Hat Mardi Gras

Though Vermont may be the perfect place for skiing and winter activities, it also hosts a memorable Mardi Gras celebration. The Magic Hat festival comes to Burlington, Vermont for three fun-filled days from February 28th to March 2nd. This festival is filled with fun costumes, parades, beer and is appropriate for all ages. The big parade takes place on Saturday March 1st and proceeds from this event benefit HOPE Works. Mardi Gras Ball XXI

On Saturday March 1st take part in Wolf’s 21st annual Mardi Gras Ball, a longstanding musical tradition. To take part in this rocking night purchase tickets online and get ready to listen to some New-Orleans style rhythm and blues. The ball features an all-star Mardi Gras band with Shaun Wolf Wortis and Vudu Krewe and other various artists. Proceeds from the event benefit New Orleans Musician’s Clinic. Mardi Gras! Beer, Beads And Bad Decisions

You’ll have your fair share of party hopping to do because the largest Mardi Gras masquerade party in Boston is on Saturday March 1st. Doors open at 9 pm for those between the ages of 21-42 where there will be a complementary buffet, beads and a prize for the best dressed, so make sure you come in your best purple, green and gold attire.  Black Eyed Sally’s

On March 4th the Mardi Gras celebrations head over to Hartford, Connecticut. Black Eyed Sally’s is partying all day on Fat Tuesday starting with an all-you-can eat southern lunch buffet from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm for just $12.95. The Firehouse Center for the Arts

If it is the jazz music that makes you excited for Mardi Gras, the Firehouse Center for the Arts in Newburyport is where you will want to be on March 5th. NRICA Mardi Gras 2014

On February 22nd the Northern Rhode Island Council of the Arts will be sponsoring its 20th annual Mardi Gras celebration.
