September 28th will be bonanza for museum lovers, when many of Rhode Island's sites will open their doors (and charge no admission) for the Smithsonian's Museum Day.

Heritage Day at Paine House Museum

Also on September 28, Paine House in Coventry will be hosting its annual Heritage Day from 9am-2pm.  The day will feature food, raffles, music and activities. Kids can try their hand at games popular in Colonial times with some help from members of Girl Scout troop 623. At 11am, participants can march to the beat of the Providence Brigade Band, a Civil War period brass band. At noon, enjoy the sounds of the Aquidneck Island Intertribal Indian Council, featuring a Native American drum circle and the Soaring Eagle Singers. Other attractions include the Rhode Island Spinners Guild with demonstrations on spinning wool to yarn; the RI 14th Heavy Artillery Regiment, high school Civil War re-enactors from Providence; and a craft fair featuring a variety of handmade items by local artisans.
