Get Healthy, Beautiful Skin with These Foods

We all know that it's what inside that counts when it comes to beauty. And for looking gorgeous outside, it's absolutely the case. In addition to lotions and potions, what we eat has much to do with how our skin looks and feels. We spoke with nutrition guru Emily Gedney, Nutrition Director at EVOLUTION Pilates & Nutrition in Bristol to find out how foods can help your skin glow!

Banish Free Radicals
Free radicals (pollutants in the air and too much sun exposure) can damage our skin and make it more susceptible to breakouts, imbalance and overall dull complexions. Power up with antioxidants, which neutralize free radicals and help protect against premature aging of the skin.
Shopping List: Blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries

Load Up On Healthy Fat
Fat is in! Omega 3 fatty acids encourage strong cell membranes, which translates into moisture retention and healthier, firmer skin. Omega 3's also calm inflammation in the body, which leads to overall better skin health.
Shopping List: Salmon, flax seed, walnuts, sardines

Water with Care
You hear it all the time because it is true! You need to hydrate for overall body health and especially for the skin. Hydration plumps the skin naturally and restores moisture levels.
Shopping List: If you're getting your water from the Scituate Reservoir, drink it straight from the tap. If you're concerned about the quality of your local H20, pick up a water filter and ditch the bottled water... you'll do something good for your skin and the environment.

Vitamin Power
Vitamins C and E provide you with a natural glow and help reduce the damage of UV rays.
Shopping List: C foods-citrus fruits, broccoli, tomatoes, red and yellow peppers, E foods-sunflower seeds, almonds, dark leafy greens, wheat germ, green tea

Steer Clear
There are a ton of foods that do no good for your skin so steer clear of fried foods, refined sugars, processed carbs and excessive alcohol.
Since you literally are what you eat, consider your skin the result of what you consume. Healthy foods equals healthy skin.
