Apple picking is one of the great events of the fall season and New England has some of the best apple orchards around.
For those with young kids, there may be no better day activity then heading to an apple orchard and letting the kids run around and pick apples for a few hours.

Jaswell's Farm
Smithfield RI
Jaswell's Farm is the oldest operating apple orchard in Smithfield, Rhode Island.
The farm is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on a daily basis and is a great place for a family day of apple picking.

Brookfield Orchards, Inc
North Brookfield, MA
Pick your own apples! The Snack Bar offers hot apple dumplings and ice cream, cheese and cider. The Country Store will tempt you with honey common crackers, maple products, “Penny Candy”, culinary delights, antiques and collectables and much more! They have a playground and picnic tables - please stay awhile.
Brookfield Orchards is open year round from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Vermont
Burtt's Apple Orchard in Vermont is open until October 31st, allowing you to pick the best apples that you can find.
Apples ar Burtt's are $1.10 per pound and they are open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. every day.

Bishop's Orchards
Guilford, CT
Bishop's Orchards sells the best apple cider on the market. The bakery also has delicious caramel apples, cider, pies, and donuts.
The farm first started in 1871 and even boasts a winery, a corn maze, and 320 acres of fruits and vegetables.

Bailey's Orchard
Whitefield, Maine
Bailey’s Orchard has been owned and operated but the same family for more than 60 years and they raise over 50 apple varieties.
Feel free to pick your own, or just head to the barn and buy them.
The orchard is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Barden Family Orchard
North Scituate, RI
With apple trees dating back to 1931, the Bardens grow Macintosh, Gala, Cortland, Liberty, Jonagold, Macoun and other apple varieties on their family farm near Route 116 in North Scituate.
They also produce and sell their own apple cider from mid-September through March. Make sure you stock up for the winter ahead.
