11 to Watch in 2011: Peter Bramante

Thursday, December 30, 2010

Peter Bramante, the soft-spoken arts administrator, has the greatest potential to change the RI arts landscape in 2011, and if past performance is any indicator, great things are in store.

Bramante came on board mid-year as Managing Director at FirstWorks, the always-ambitious arts festival that has brought artists and ensembles of international prominence to Providence stages, from Laurie Anderson to

Pilobolus
.

And although FirstWorks has consistently executed the highest level of programming, it has struggled to fill its venues. Bramante's arrival to the organization so near the launch of the 2010 festival gave him not much to handle beyond daily stewardship and promotion, but handle that he did, with the kind of professionalism he so clearly demonstrated at the Arts & Business Council of RI (where his leadership has resulted in a newly realized, powerful ArtTix site - which is hosted on GoLocalProv.com's home page).

Now, Bramante has a whole year to oversee not only the deployment of FirstWorks 2011 festival, but he has been discussing opportunities to expand the organization's outreach and positioning. It may be time, finally, for RI to host an arts festival as vibrant as a South Carolina's famous Spoleto Festival. Look to Peter Bramante to get RI moving in that direction in 2011.
